Division of Global Health

Tackling Global Health Challenges Through Education, Research & Service

The Division of Global Health in the Department of Population Health focuses on leveraging education, research and service to advance health equity for people in Central Texas and worldwide.

Chaired by Tim Mercer, M.D., the division’s programming intersects the missions of Dell Medical School and Texas Global at The University of Texas at Austin to cultivate globally minded leaders; improve overall health outcomes in Texas and partner communities; and build cross-disciplinary collaboration to address social and structural determinants of health. As a key member of the Academic Model Providing Access to Healthcare Consortium, the division’s impactful partnerships span Austin, Texas; Eldoret, Kenya; and Puebla, Mexico.

No individual or country is isolated from faraway activities. The division works to promote health equity in Central Texas and internationally by providing opportunities for medical students, residents and faculty to participate in care programs in Sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America and extend application of their experiences back in Central Texas.
